Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) will take the stage to discuss driving a smarter future through connectivity Thursday, September 29, at 1:30 at Mobile World Congress Las Vegas, September 28-30.
This is a transformative time in the transportation industry, and Cisco is keenly focused on helping to make cars smarter and roadways safer through the power of connectivity. Cisco is working with virtually every auto maker on the planet to make this vision a reality, and it now has over 75M connected vehicles on the Cisco IoT Control Center connectivity management platform. Together with partners and customers across the transportation ecosystem, Cisco is uniquely positioned to take on some of the biggest transportation challenges and opportunities facing the industry.
Matt Price, VP Engineering, Cisco, will dive deep into the major transformations facing the transportation industry which will make even more transportation innovations a reality.
Driving a Smarter Future through Connectivity
Dynamic, adaptable and ultra-reliable connectivity is mission-critical for tomorrow's connected transportation ecosystem, from safely operating autonomous vehicles, improving safety with connected intersections and roadways to monetizing value added services. While vehicle-generated data is increasing exponentially, not all data should be treated equally. A vehicle may need to communicate with other vehicles, pedestrians, roadside infrastructure or a cloud-based back end. Strategically managing this data, requires a multi-channel architecture.
Using a 5G distributed multi-access edge compute (MEC) architecture enables car makers and fleet managers to control data transport costs, improve service availability and security, and ensure that the high-bandwidth and low-latency requirements of different connected vehicle applications are met.
OEMs are looking to take control of network and service management by defining policies for handling each category of data, and then letting the network report performance back to them dynamically.
The convergence of public and private 5G networks plus the use of multi-access technologies will pave the way for a new era of connectivity visibility and control.
