GSMA MWC Barcelona – what’s in the name?

GSMA MWC Barcelona has long been the place to network and get deals done for the mobile industry, check out the innovations of tomorrow and hear from the industry’s leaders.

But did you know that it’s not just a stellar line-up of speakers that is building anticipation for the 2023 edition? MWC Barcelona will be going far beyond its traditional mobile roots.

“Mobile World Congress”… “The Mobile”… “Congress”… “Barcelona”… over the years, so many of us have known our event by these names. M… W… C… those three letters can mean many things to many people. But lately, the keen-eyed among us will note our iconic event is branded “MWC Barcelona”. Our brand name represents how the mobile and communications industry is relevant and inherently important for all industries. That’s because the telecoms sector is now a horizontal industry, partnering with all vertical sectors.

In 2022, 52% of attendees came from outside the telco industry. This year, we’ve already seen an increasing number of businesses and organisations operating outside of the mobile ecosystem recognise the show’s growing importance and sign up for exhibition space.

More business leaders and experts from other industries are coming forward as event thought leaders, and we are excited to welcome key players in the transport, finance, professional services, biomedical and logistics sectors – from Airbus and Segway to Boston Consulting Group and Dow Jones, just to name a few. Recently announced keynote speakers include Andrew Weinberg, the President and CEO of biomedical software company BostonGene, and Sébastien Borget, Co-Founder and COO of the metaverse gaming platform, The Sandbox. If you haven’t already, make sure to check out our first round of announced speakers here, such as Maersk’s CEO, Ocean & Logistics, Vincent Clerc.

These new exhibitors demonstrate the growing importance of MWC Barcelona to industries. The show is widening its scope to engage the full suite of players who are central to the industry digitisation roadmap.

It will take boundary-pushing businesses – large and small – from across all sectors to truly achieve Digital Everything, and that’s why we’re so pleased to have so many new players joining in the conversation. Industry City will be returning in 2023, providing a space for the most innovative demos and showcases from across the FinTech, Manufacturing, and Smart Mobility industries – and, by the looks of things, it’s going to be even busier than ever. Diversification gives us the most exciting opportunity to learn from and experience the best of connected technology – and we must embrace that far and wide across vertical industries.
