Julie Kub has worked the National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s Institute for Telecommunication Sciences (NTIA/ITS) for 27 years. She is currently serving as Program Leader for the 5G Challenge, a collaborative project between NTIA/ITS and Department of Defense’s Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)). The 5G Challenge promotes adoption of 5G open interfaces, interoperable subsystems, trusted modular components, and diverse solutions by fostering a large, vibrant, and growing supplier community dedicated to advancing 5G interoperability towards true plug-and-play operation.
Ms. Kub has served as the ITS.E (Software Engineering and Data Science) Division Chief since 2015. Ms. Kub received a Department of Commerce (DoC) bronze medal in 2016 for her work developing the AWS-3 1695-1710 MHz Radio Frequency Coordination Portal (RFCP) to coordinate spectrum sharing. In 2011 Ms. Kub received a DoC bronze medal for her leadership of the Propagation Modeling Website (PMW), enabling multiple agencies to achieve their mission-critical communication systems planning. She received a U.S. Patent in 1999 for developing the “Method for Characterizing Air Traffic Control Radar Beacon System Antenna Patterns” in support of the FAA. Ms. Kub has a BEE from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and an MEE from University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).
