Smart Mobility

Industry City 5G Lead Partner

The transport sector accounted for 37% of total emission in 2021, with road transport being the highest contributor - hence, the strong focus on electrification. Data driven decisions will improve routes and traffic management, minimising delays and congestion, reducing fuel/energy consumption. 5G will help to increase automation in vehicles, enabling them to make informed decisions based on real-time information. The combination of smart mobility and 5G will drive efficiency, safety, and sustainability in transportation, revolutionizing the way we travel.

Smart Mobility Summit

Date: 10:00am – 12:30pm, Wednesday 27 September

Location: Industry City Stage, WEST HALL

The transport evolution: Towards a more sustainable and efficient future

Time: 10:00 – 11:00 PDT

Environmental sustainability is becoming increasingly important around the world. Accelerating the development of sustainable and efficient mobility solutions is vital, electric vehicles (EVs) and automation are clearly at the forefront of this movement. This can only be accomplished through a data-driven decision-making process, therefore, relevant and timely information collected from the vehicle, infrastructure, and surrounding environment is critical. The mobile network industry plays a major role as it enables faster, more reliable connectivity by facilitating real-time data exchange between vehicles, infrastructure, and end users.

This session will explore some of the most recent mobility innovations, with the goal of improving efficiency, sustainability, resilience, automation, safety, and the overall user experience.

Advancing UAV: Are we ready to scale up?

Time: 11:30 – 12:30 PDT

Technological advancements such as robust communication systems, more reliable sense-and-avoid capabilities and traffic management systems have made safer and more efficient UAV operations beyond visual line-of-sight (BVLOS) possible. Authorities are exploring guidelines and standards to ensure the safe integration of drones into the airspace, thus regulatory frameworks are evolving as well to suit these advanced operations. While there are still challenges, technology is steadily improving to allow for widespread fully automated BVLOS operations. And it opens up numerous potential applications, from package delivery to infrastructure inspection to public safety and beyond.

This session delves into technical progress and highlights the importance of cross-industry collaboration, especially between the aviation and telecom sectors, which provides the foundation for future innovation.
